Wood, smoke, fire & a small bar.

WUV is a modern Brazilian kitchen and bar in Vila Madalena. We cook regional food over wood, pour natural wine, and stay open later than is sensible. Most of what we serve was caught, picked, or made within a few hundred kilometers this week.

the bar — natural wine, late hours

WUV started as a series of dinners in our home in 2021 — twelve seats around one long table, a single menu, and the kind of cooking we missed eating out.

We opened the restaurant a year later in a converted carpentry workshop on Rua Wisard, with the wood-fire stove still in the middle of the dining room.

What we cook here is regional, seasonal, and made by hand — Amazonian fish, Northeastern fruits, food from the Cerrado, the Pantanal, and the coast we grew up near.

The bar stays open late on purpose. We hope you'll stay too.

The three of us.

Head chef

Helena Reis

Salvador-born. Trained at D.O.M. and worked the line at Maní before opening WUV. Cooks instinctively over fire.

Sommelier

Bruno Tavares

Former natural wine importer, walking encyclopedia of Brazilian and South American producers. Will pour you something you haven't had.

General manager

Lucas Mendes

Runs the room with absurd attention to detail. Knows every regular's name, drink, and dietary restrictions by heart.

WUV is the kind of restaurant that reminds you what eating out is supposed to feel like — generous, surprising, and a little wild around the edges.

Things guests ask.

Do I need a reservation?
Strongly recommended, especially Thursday through Saturday. The bar keeps a few seats for walk-ins each night — first come, first served.
What kind of food do you serve?
Modern regional Brazilian cooking, mostly cooked over wood. The menu changes with the seasons and what our farmers and fishermen are bringing in. Expect Amazonian fish, Northeastern fruits, plenty of fire.
Are vegetarian and vegan options available?
Yes — we always have a full vegetarian tasting and most dishes can be adapted to vegan. Let us know when you book and we'll plan ahead.
Do you have a corkage policy?
Corkage is R$120 per bottle, max two bottles per table. Our wine list is short and entirely natural — we'd love to pour you something you haven't had.
Is WUV good for kids?
Sunday lunch (feijoada) is family-friendly and we love seeing kids. Tuesday-Saturday evenings are quieter and more adult — your call.
Can you accommodate allergies?
Yes — please tell us when you book so we can plan, not just adjust on the night. Our kitchen handles dendê, nuts, and dairy regularly, so we can't always guarantee zero cross-contact.

Stay in touch.

Menu changes, the occasional supper-club night, and feijoada Sundays. About one email a month — never more.
